Chicago: The Musical, first opened on Broadway November, 1996 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. During 1997, Chicago moved to the Shubert Theatre on Broadway and also won 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical.
The story is set in Chicago during the prohibition days and is a satire of the criminal justice system.
Vaudevillian, Velma Kelly, shot the other half of her sister act when she caught her husband in bed with her sister. Everyone is invited to "All That Jazz" while Velma shows us the story of how chorus girl Roxie Hart murders Fred Casely, a regular at the nightclub.
Roxie is able to convince her husband Amos that the victim was a burglar and Amos gladly admits to the killing.
Besides the Chicago musical classic "All That Jazz", the singing and dancing to "Funny Honey", "Cell Block Tango", "Razzle Dazzle" and many more songs will make you want to see the show over and over.
During the fall of 2009, musical artist Ashlee Simpson-Wentz made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart. Ashlee performed through February 7, 2010 at the Ambassador Theatre. Ashlee does have previous experience in the role as Roxie Hart when she performed in London's West End production of Chicago. Later in 2006, Ashlee was in the special 10th anniversary benefit performance at the Ambassador Theatre.
