Billy Elliot is the story of a young boy growing up in County Durham in northern England during the mid-1980's. It contrasts the tough , working-class world that is enduring a miner's strike with the peaceful escape that Billy experiences during ballet class.

Billy is the youngest child of this hard working mining family that recently lost its mother. While Billy's brother and father take to the violent picket lines, Billy secretly takes dance lessons with a local dance teacher.

As the world around him continues to deteriorate, Billy continues his dancing and begins to shine. His only hope to pursue dancing may be with the Royal Ballet School, which is a a place that no working-class boy has been allowed to go before.

Basically, it is about a British boy growing up in a mining community where his father wants him to box and Billy wants to be a ballet dancer.

Billy Elliot opened on Broadway November 13, 2008 at the Imperial Theatre in New York. Billy Elliot is a show for the family and will truly inspire your children to follow their dreams. Be aware there is some bad language and a few violent riot scenes. Children under 4 years of age are not admitted to the Imperial Theatre.
