Comic strip hero... Spider-Man makes his debut on Broadway at the Foxwoods Theatre in New York. Instead of swinging on spider webs through the streets of New York, Spider-Man swings indoors above the Foxwoods stage.
The story is about a teenager, Peter Parker, that is bitten by a genetically-altered spider that turns him into a person with spider-like powers. He can climb walls, spins webs, and swings on strands of spider web through the streets of New York.
While fighting villians, Peter discovers that with this new power comes a great responsibility. The villians test not only his physical strength but also the strength of his character.
This is actually a Broadway musical and is directed by co-authored by Julie Taymor, who is best known for her Tony award work on The Lion King. Spider-Man:Turn Off the Dark has music and lyrics by U2's Bono and The Edge.
Spider-Man is currently in preview at the Foxwoods Theatre and is scheduled to open on February 7, 2011. Tickets are available for both the preview and the regular performances.
